Welding Procedures & Specifications

for assured weld quality and compliance

As a leading supplier of welding gases for over 65 years, we are experienced in matching the ideal gas solution to your operation and understand the importance for accurate documentation.

We can work with you to ensure compliance and have a range of pre-approved pWPS and wPQR procedure specifications available that we can provide to reduce the administration in this necessary process.

Additionally, our team of qualified welders across UK and Ireland offer welding gas demonstrations on site, identify optimal gas solutions, recommend parameters and best practices to maximise your objectives as well as conduct safety surveys and gas consumption analyses.

Welder Working

To ensure adequate weld quality for a specific application, it is essential to define the welding procedure and the skill level of the welding operator. The primary document for this purpose is the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS), which outlines the welding variables necessary to achieve the desired weld quality and mechanical properties.

Similar to a recipe for welders, these procedures provide clear instructions for creating quality welds that meet industry standards and codes. They include detailed welding parameters and essential information required to produce the desired weld.

These procedures are thoroughly tested and proven, encompassing details such as the materials needed, the tools required, the processes to follow, the techniques to employ, and the confirmation of the desired outcome.

The WPS is supported by various documents, including records of how the weld was made, non-destructive testing results, and mechanical test outcomes. Together, these documents form a welding approval record known as the Welding Procedure Approval Record (WPAR) according to EN ISO standards/ UKAS standards.
