Compressed Gas User onsite training should take approximately 4.5 hours

Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for all those working with oxy-acetylene or propane in applications such as cutting, brazing, soldering and welding, potentially in one of these industries, agriculture, construction, demolition, maintenance.

Course content
This training course combines classroom and practical demonstration to provide learners with an understanding of the hazards and properties of oxy-fuel gases. Approximately 90% of incidents involving oxy-acetylene/propane occur due to incorrect light up and shut down procedures and operator error. Attendance gives staff information to understand the specific hazards associated with oxy-acetylene/propane.
After the classroom element of the course (3.5 hours) learners will have an understanding of:
- User behaviour & perceptions
- Flashback arrestors
- Non-return valves
- Emergency procedures
- PPE & First aid
During the practical element of the course (1 - 2 hours) learners will have the opportunity to undertake:
Before-use checks including leak checking |
Regulator fitting |
Manual handing of cylinders |
Correct light-up & shut-down procedures |

Course Outcomes
After successfully passing a multiple-choice test and practical assessment a Certificate of Achievement & Gas Safety Passport demonstrating the delegate has been provided with, and has understood, the safety requirements for the safe use of oxy-acetylene and oxy-propane gases and equipment. Certificate validity is 3 years.
